Overview

The megapixel VB-M40 Pan/Tilt/Zoom Network Camera brings a new level of image quality and performance to the security camera market. This ONVIF version 1.02 conformant product boasts a Canon 20x Optical Zoom Lens which is not only the smallest in its class, but also produces images with little aberration. This new lens was also designed to maximize the cameras low light performance, allowing the VB-M40 to provide color video down to .03 Lux and black/white video down to 0.001 Lux, thus making it ideal for areas subject to the most challenging low light conditions. The VB-M40 is loaded with sophisticated On-board Video Analytics and functions that allow the VB-M40 to be tailored to fit your monitoring needs, while SSL support and a built-in SD Memory Card slot add to the reliability and security of your monitored video. The VB-M40's 1.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor provides images with four times the detail of a VGA security camera, yet it can be streamed with low bandwidth utilization and disk space usage thanks to the H.264 Codec.

Features

Genuine Canon 55.4° Lens with 20x Optical Zoom and Auto Focus
The VB-M40 is able to deliver superb visual quality and image consistency thanks to the brilliant lens technology Canon brings to its 20x Optical Zoom lens. Not only will you have a commanding view of your surveillance area, you'll have the best in high performance zooming from the 55.4° wide-angle to the 2.8° telephoto. This lens delivers clear, sharp images throughout the zoom range.

ONVIF version 1.02 Conformant Product
Third party integration is simple with the VB-M40 because it's ONVIF version 1.02 conformant. Compatibility with this standard protocol, as well as WebView, Canon's network camera protocol, enables the user to create a system which best meets their needs, with equipment from different manufacturers and third party recording software. It also simplifies the work of system integrators by expanding the ability to use third party recording software. This XML based standard systematizes the protocols of settings for camera, control and information acquisition. Among the functions supported are camera search by WS-Discovery, authentication by WS-Security, RTP streaming of video (JPEG, H.264), audio (G.711), events (including PTZ and Camera status) and Multicast. Network settings, camera system parameters, rebooting external IO control and preset home settings are also supported. In addition, SSL communication and setting of intelligent functions are also possible.

1.3 Megapixel CMOS Sensor
The megapixel CMOS Sensor of the VB-M40 helps ensure the maximum in image quality, a hallmark of Canon products. Its approximately 1.3 million pixels delivers sharp, high resolution video with four times the detail of a VGA camera for clearer, more useful video monitoring.

Brilliant Low-light Performance
The VB-M40's image capture technology allows the camera to capture color video down to 0.03 Lux* and black/white video down to 0.001 Lux*. You will see the remarkable clarity of the video captured in even the most challenging low light conditions, indoors or outside at night.

On-board Video Analytics
The VB-M40 is packed with features which enhance its functionality and usability. Among the most useful are its sophisticated On-board Video Analytics, enabling the camera to detect Moving, Abandoned, or Removed Objects in its range of vision, and also detect attempts at Camera Tampering and changes in Sound Levels. For added control, the VB-M40 also offers a Privacy Mask function which allows the blocking of certain areas of the camera's field of view, to protect from inadvertent intrusions of privacy or password theft (even during P/T/Z operations the specified areas will be masked). Thanks to the VB-M40's impressive algorithm highly precise detection is achieved by using polygonal and rectangle shapes to specify up to 15 areas of detection (as opposed to only using rectangle shapes like some competitor models). Additional flexibility is provided in that notification of a detection can be made through the network from the camera using a number of functions including automatic recording, e-mail transmission, uploading video to a specified target server and events in ONVIF by the RM server. It is also possible to combine a number of detection functions for simultaneous notification.

DIGIC NET Processor
All encoding and transmission is performed with Canon's powerful, proprietary hardware-based compression engine called DIGIC NET. This allows the VB-M40 to simultaneously deliver both H.264 and JPEG video in high resolution 1280 x 960 at the maximum frame rate of 30fps - with no loss in frame rate, unlike many competing models.
